In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on the Southeastern United States, the government of Taiwan has extended its hand in solidarity by donating $300,000 through Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta to assist with relief efforts in North Carolina.
The donations from Taiwan have been directed to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund. The North Carolina State Assembly Taiwan Caucus co-chair Senator Ted Alexander, several House Representatives, Governor’s staffs, and Taiwanese community leaders witnessed the making of this donation at the Governor’s Mansion. As part of this gesture, Director General Elliot Wang of TECO in Atlanta met with local nonprofit organization “United Way of North Carolina” involved in disaster relief, expressing deep gratitude and respect for their tireless efforts on the ground.
North Carolina has the second largest Taiwanese community in U.S. Southeastern region. Natural disasters are all too familiar to the people of Taiwan. From typhoons to earthquakes, Taiwan has experienced similar tragedies and understands the profound sense of loss that follows. It is this shared experience that motivates us to stand in solidarity with the people of North Carolina during this difficult time.
The friendship and partnership between Taiwan and the United States have long been strong and vital. We hope that this gesture of solidarity brings comfort and hope to the people of North Carolina.
