The United States has long been Taiwan’s most important supplier of agricultural products. In 2022, 22.8% of Taiwan’s total agricultural imports came from the U.S. The main products imported include soybeans, beef, wheat, corn, and poultry meat. The importing value of U.S.-exported agricultural products was up to US$ 4.67 billion in 2022.
In 2022, Taiwan was the seventh-largest overseas market of U.S. agricultural products. Among the top ten trading partners of the U.S., Taiwan was the fourth-largest consumer of U.S. agricultural products on a per capita basis.
As for Taiwan’s agricultural exportation to the U.S. in 2022, the U.S. was the largest market for Taiwan’s agricultural exports and the value was about US$910 million. Our main exports to the U.S. include orchids, tilapia, and processed food.
Taiwan is the fourth largest export market for U.S. organic products, based on USDA analyses. On June 4, 2020, The American Institute in Taiwan and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States signed and exchanged letters on behalf of the United States and Taiwan inaugurating a new organic equivalence arrangement which is effective on May 30, 2020. This Arrangement allows organic products certified in the United States or Taiwan to be sold as organic in either market.
