Taiwan Attends the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS
Taiwan’s Representative to the United States, Amb. Alexander Tah-Ray Yui, attended the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, hosted by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on Sept. 30, 2024 at the U.S. Department of State to discuss the Coalition’s work progress and prospects with fellow representatives from the Coalition .
Countries around the world are currently facing common threats and challenges posed by authoritarian regimes and international terrorism. Amb. Yui mentioned during his intervention that, “as part of the Coalition and a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to support the Coalition’s work as well as contribute to regional stabilization efforts.
This year, Taiwan provided assistance to revitalize civil society in northeast Syria, including efforts in improving public health, enhancing quality of life and developing the capacity of first responders.”
Taiwan has been a member of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS since 2014. The Coalition currently has 87 members. Taiwan has provided over 4 million USD towards critically needed humanitarian assistance to communities liberated from ISIS in recent years, aiming to improve stabilization in the Middle East region. With its contributions widely recognized by members of the Coalition, Taiwan will continue to work with the United States and other like-minded countries to safeguard shared values, such as democracy and freedom, and to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
