The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Statement Regarding the Monterey Park Mass Shooting Incident

On the evening of January 21, 2023, a devastating mass shooting took place in Monterey Park, resulting in the loss of lives and injuries. TECO-LA contacted the U.S. authorities immediately and it is with great sorrow that we confirm that three of the dead victims were Taiwanese Americans. TECO-LA conveys our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families and sends our prayers to the injured for a speedy recovery. We are also providing necessary assistance to the family members of one of the Taiwanese American victims who live in Taiwan and plan to come to Los Angeles as soon as possible.
TECO-LA urges the Taiwanese American community to be aware of their surroundings, stay vigilant and safe, and prevent danger.
