Atlanta Taiwanese community celebrates Lunar New Year

The Atlanta ethnic Chinese community held a weekend long festival to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Cultural Center of TECO on January 25 and 26. Acting Director General Daniel Hung of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta gave remarks at the opening ceremony. He mentioned that 2020 is the Year of the Rat, the first sign of the Chinese zodiac, and the Rat symbolizes optimism, creativity, energy, adaptability and fortune.
ADG Hung emphasized that Dr. Tsai Ing-wen successfully won her re-election as the 15th President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and people in Taiwan once again demonstrated to the world their determination to safeguard their sovereignty, freedom, democracy and human rights. He also commended OCAC Commissioners Dr. Ray Wang, Mark Chen, OCAC Senior Advisor Dr. Sue-Ling Wang, and Ms. Elena Beavan, the organizer of the event. He welcomed distinguished guests Rep. Angelika Kaushe of the Georgia House of Representatives, and Mayor Joseph Geierman of Doraville.
More than 4,000 people joined this annual celebration. People enjoyed fantastic ethnic foods, folk songs and dances, arts and crafts exhibitions, and the lion dance and dragon dance.
