Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta attended the “Taiwan and the World in Transition: Opportunities and Challenges” forum hosted by the Taiwanese American Political Scholars Association (TAPSA) at Kennesaw State University on November 10.
In his opening remarks, DG Liu stated that since President Tsai Ing-Wen took office in 2016, the ROC government has unveiled the concept of steadfast diplomacy. He also explained that TECO Atlanta launched its official Facebook page on Oct 10, 2017, hosted “Taiwan Michelin Night” and sponsored the “Taste of Taiwan” dinner gala in Atlanta this August, and sponsored Taiwanese medical equipment companies to set up booths at Medtrade 2018 in October, in efforts to promote the relationship between Taiwan and the Southeastern U.S.
More than fifty scholars from the US and Taiwan attended the three-day event. These scholars included Dr. Chien-Pin Li and Dr. Kerwin Swint of Kennesaw State University, Dr. Jerome Cohen of New York University, Dr. Philip Hsu of National Taiwan University, Dr. Tsung Chi of Occidental College, Dr. Emerson Niou of Duke University, and Dr. T.Y. Wang of Illinois State University. Subjects of panel discussions included: Democracy and Political Governance, Political Attitudes and Behaviors, Taiwan’s Foreign Relations and Diplomatic Initiatives, Cross-Strait Relations and Issues.
DG Liu was accompanied by TECO officer Liz Wang.
