Atlanta Taiwanese Community celebrates 2016 Taiwanese American Heritage Week

To celebrate 2016 Taiwanese American Heritage Week and President-elect Tsai Ing-Wen’s inauguration, the Atlanta Taiwanese Association of America (ATAA) held a celebration on Sunday, May 15 at Kennesaw State University's Marietta campus.
The professional dancing troupe “Modern Arts Dance Theater” from Taiwan performed “Taiwan So Beautiful”. The program mixed elements of modern dance, traditional Taiwanese folk songs, Taiwanese opera, and glove puppetry.
Director General Steven Tai thanked ATAA for its efforts in organizing and supporting the celebration activities. In his remarks, DG Tai said that Taiwan is the 9th largest trading partner of the US. He urged the US to support Taiwan to become a member of the Trans Pacific Partnership. He also mentioned after the presidential inauguration on May 20, the new government will continue Taiwan's policy as a regional peace keeper.
Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens presented a Commendation to DG Tai. Georgia GOP Chairman John Padgett, representing Governor Nathan Deal, proclaimed that May 15 -21 is Georgia’s “Taiwanese American Heritage Week”. Other distinguished guests included Tom Taylor of the Georgia House of Representatives; Dr. Ray Wang, Mr. Been-Chuan Lee, Ms. Marisa Lee, and media from Atlanta Jewish Times, CNN, and Georgia Asian Times. More than 700 people attended the event.
