On behalf of the Taipei City, Ambassador Peter Chen delivered 24,000 medical masks and US$3,000 to Castries, the sister city of Taipei, to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic on Dec. 9, 2020.
Thanks to Dr. Wen-je Ko, Mayor of the Taipei City, the donations demonstrate the love from the Taipei City for Castries and the friendship between the two sister cities. Taiwan and Saint Lucia are partners of prosperity as well as true friends in hard times.
His Worship Peterson Francis, Mayor of Castries expressed his hearty appreciation to Mayor Ko for lending a helping hand to Castries in these pandemic times. He looks forward to strengthening the sister city relations with Taipei and meeting with Mayor Ko in person in the future.
Former Ambassador Tom Chou of Taiwan to Saint Lucia, who played a key role in making the donations a reality, also offered his greetings to all his friends in St. Lucia through a video during the presentation.
The Taipei City and the City of Castries established sister-city relationship on August 22, 2018. With its population of about 2.6 million, Taipei City is the capital of Taiwan and one of the major hubs in East Asia.
