Ambassador Wang addresses his guests inside the Chancery.
Ambassador and Mme Larry Yu-yuan Wang hosted a reception at the Embassy’s Chancery to celebrate the 102nd National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) which was attended by Vatican officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, missionaries, sisters and priests, as well as by Embassy’s friends, approximately 300 guests.
Ambassador Larry Wang addressed his guests in Italian and reminded them of the trip made on March 19 by the President of the Republic of China, H.E. Ma Ying-jeou, to attend the ceremony of inauguration of Pope Francis in Rome, clearly showing the great feeling of appreciation that the Taiwanese President has towards the Holy See and the friendly relations existing between the two.
He then stated that in the future, the ROC Government will continue to exercise its role of peacemaker and supporter of humanitarian initiatives in order to strengthen its partnership with the Holy See and promote a culture of solidarity, to defend human dignity, to build, as Pope Francis said, “a more just world, marked by greater solidarity, in which is possible to defeat hunger.” The address was followed by a toast.
A Taiwanese lady residing in Rome for the past 24 years and an African priest were the lucky winners of a lottery which gave away two round-trip tickets to Taipei: a generous prize offered by China Airlines, Taiwan’s flagship carrier, in the person of Mr. Jerry Ho, Airlines Manager in charge of the Italian market, who wished them a pleasant journey to Taiwan!
