Taiwan Embraces Fraternity during the Second Pandemic Wave
The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Holy See continues to put in practice the Pope’s teaching in Fratelli tutti by embracing fraternity, as the Holy Father said in his last encyclical, “By acknowledging the dignity of each human person, we can contribute to the rebirth of a universal aspiration to fraternity.”
On October 23, 2020, Ambassador Matthew Lee attended the Mass for the 9th anniversary of the canonization ceremony of St. Louis Guanella at the Casa Santa Maria della Provvidenza. After the Eucharistic ceremony, Ambassador Lee delivered the digital thermometers, surgical gloves, and cleaning products to the rehabilitation center saying that, as Pope Francis stated in his encyclical Fratelli tutti, the COVID-19 pandemic has reminded all “that we are a global community,…that we are brothers and sisters of one another.” Ambassador Lee hoped that the materials would help the Catholic institution to ensure the safety of its special guests. Ambassador Lee also explained that, during the global health crisis, the Embassy looked for ways to help those most in need and took the opportunity to really be in solidarity with others, thus finding a sense of unity and coming together in fraternal love.
Sister Michela Carrozzino, the Head of the center, thanked Taiwan and its people for the gifts and mentioned that the Pope’s words may have no better illustration that this wonderful donation that demonstrates a deep concern for each other as brothers and sisters, as well as created some beautiful and touching moments with some of the disabled women who participated in the event.
