The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York is pleased to announce that Taiwanese artist Wang Yahui’s narrative video artwork, “The Smell of a Rice Field,” is currently on display at the Rubin Museum of Art’s Mandala Lab.
Inspired by Buddhist principles, the Mandala Lab is a new space located on the museum’s third floor, featuring thought-provoking, interactive experiences—including videos, scents, sculptures, and curated percussion instruments—that will guide you on an inner journey to explore everyday emotions and self-awareness.
Wang is one of six contemporary artists that contributed to the installation on scents, where each artist chose a smell with personal meaning to them and shared a story regarding it. In her video, Wang describes her experience of moving to a rural area after college, where the smell of rice fields imbued her with a sense of calm and mental clarity that subsequently impacted her art.
