Director General Chou was invited to deliver a speech on "The Benefits of a US-Taiwan Tax Agreement" at the 50th American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) annual meeting on the morning of 7/28. After Director General Chou's presentation, Florida Representative Spencer Roach proposed a resolution supporting a “US-Taiwan Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income,” which was unanimously passed by the Joint Task Forces.
Along with Representative Roach, the joint task forces were comprised of many senators and representatives from several states, such as Texas Senator Tan Parker, Utah Representatives Candice Pierucci and Kay Christofferson, Arizona Representative Justin Wilmeth, West Virginia Senator Patricia Rucker, Idaho Representative Sage Dixon, and Kansas Representative Pat Proctor.
The 50th ALEC annual meeting took place between July 26th and 28th in Orlando, Florida, with more than 1,500 participants, including legislators from across the United States, as well as leaders of companies and NGOs. Notable figures like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis were invited to give remarks. U.S. Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott also took part in the event by delivering speeches in separate pre-recorded videos. Our office set up a booth at the venue, showcasing Taiwan to the participants and distributing brochures and pamphlets introducing Taiwan, which attracted a considerable number of visitors.
ALEC is America's largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators, comprising one-quarter of the country's state legislators.
