On behalf of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Ambassador Abraham W.S. Chu delivered the donation of 90,000 surgical masks to Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger on June 25. These masks will be distributed to frontline workers in LA County to help them battle against COVID-19. Supervisor Barger also presented a Certificate of Recognition to Ambassador Chu upon his retirement.
This donation takes part in the initiating spirit of ‘Taiwan Can Help and Taiwan Is Helping,’ as Taiwan has donated millions of masks to the U.S. According to the Taiwan-US Joint Statement, Taiwan also provides 100,000 masks to the U.S. in exchange of medical supplies and equipment per week. In addition, North American Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce will donate 10 million masks to social welfare organizations and nursing homes. In the future, Taiwan will continue to contribute to world health affairs through its capacity in manufacture, pharmaceutics, and technology in order to create a more inclusive world health affairs community.
