Taipei Economic & Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles and California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, will jointly sponsor the screening of two (2) Taiwanese films on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 11AM - 4PM at UU 220, Cal Poly. Simultaneously, a photo exhibition will also be held on November 18 to December 2, 2010 at the Kennedy Library of Cal-Poly.
The feature film, "Cape No.7” by renowned Taiwanese Director Der-Shen Wei, was the second highest grossing movie of all time in Taiwan. Also, "Cape No. 7" was selected as Taiwan's official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
The documentary film, “The Rhythm in Wulu Village” describes "the Bunun" one of Taiwan's indigenous groups residing in the remote eastern mountainous region of the country who currently face extinction. In recognizing the threat, the Bunun people of Wulu have started to preserve their cultural heritage to pass on to generations to come.
The photo exhibit, “Taiwan Plugging Into The World” will show 20 photos in four categories representing E-Taiwan, E-commerce, E-life and E-learning. The exhibition introduces, through images, digital life in Taiwan, the production, R&D, implementation, and promotion of related technologies.
With a strong focus on cultural exchange, the TECO in Los Angeles is pleased to engage in these projects with Cal Poly as it is an opportunity for patrons to get a glimpse of Taiwan and its culture through the talented works of its citizens.
