Director General Richard Lin of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu attended the opening ceremony of "Taiwan Day" for the 2024 Pacific Islands Leadership Program (PILP) at the invitation of the East-West Center (EWC) on the morning of September 19, 2024.
During the ceremony, EWC President Suzanne Vares-Lum, Director General Lin, and former Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Policy Director Paki Ormsby delivered opening remarks, followed by self-introductions from 21 participants from 10 Pacific island nations, including Taiwan’s diplomatic ally, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, who shared their career aspirations and interest in learning about key regional issues such as climate change.
In the afternoon, Director General Lin was invited to brief on Taiwan's country profile and share his diplomatic leadership development with the participants. Later, Director General Lin’s colleague gave a presentation on the PILP courses and activity plans during their study trip in Taiwan. It successfully sparked participants' interest and enthusiasm for further interaction and exchanges.
