2019 is the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA). To demonstrate the importance of the TRA in maintaining close partnership between Taiwan and the U.S., “Aloha from Taiwan”, a free medical, social, and food service event for the homeless will be held by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu (TECO in Honolulu), in collaboration with the State of Hawaii and Taiwanese communities, on April 7.
During the press conference on April 3, Lieutenant Governor Josh Green introduced the “Aloha from Taiwan” event, and announced April 10 to be “Aloha from Taiwan Day”.
In his speech, Lieutenant Governor Green mentioned that Taiwanese Americans in Hawaii have been making contributions in such areas as medical, business and education. TECO in Honolulu spearheads cooperation and relationships between Taiwan and Hawaii. The suggestion by TECO to celebrate the TRA by action to help and take care of people who is suffering warms the heart. The event is organized with North Taiwanese Medical Association Foundation, Taiwanese Association of America, Formosan Association for Public Affairs, and North American Taiwanese Women’s Association at Punawai Rest Stop. Lieutenant Governor Green also displayed commodities provided by TECO and tried the test on Hepatitis C in person.
Director General Tseng said that it is of significance to celebrate this anniversary by showing our appreciation and making feedback to local communities. Through this occasion, people can also see that volunteerism is a feature of Taiwanese culture.
