The Taiwanese community offers continued friendship and assistance in Kentucky’s time of need.
ATLANTA, Georgia – On behalf of the Taiwan government, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Atlanta has contributed $100,000 on December 16th to the Team Western Kentucky Relief Fund in response to the tornado disaster that struck Kentucky.
The Taiwan government and Taiwanese communities were deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and destruction caused by the tornadoes that ravaged western Kentucky. They offered their sincerest condolences to the victims of the deadly storms.
Kentucky has a special place in the hearts of the Taiwanese communities, as Kentucky and Taiwan have had a warm economic and cultural relationship since the 1980s, with a sister-state partnership established in 1982 through former Governor John Y. Brown Jr. The relationship between the two further deepened through the recently signed higher and K-12 education cooperation MOUs, which boosts language exchange and promotes cross-cultural relationships. Taiwan hopes their continued friendship will provide some comfort to the people of Kentucky during this dark moment.
In addition to contributing significant funds to the relief and recovery effort, TECO in Atlanta also donated hundreds of gift cards to the First Lady’s Western Kentucky Toy Drive initiative for children and families impacted by the tornadoes. Taiwanese communities in the southeast region has also mobilized demonstrating that “Taiwan can help, and Taiwan is helping” the people affected by this disaster.
As Kentucky is on the road to recovery, all members of the Taiwanese community stand ready to support our dear friends in Kentucky. TECO in Atlanta invites everyone to come together to help Kentucky overcome this difficult time
