Situated on 18.24 acres of land, nearly the size of the White House compound, the elegant and lush Twin Oaks Estate is the largest private estate in Washington D.C. The beautiful mansion, completed in 1888, leased in 1937 and purchased in 1947 by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), is celebrating its 130th birthday in 2018. It has witnessed numerous significant historic moments over the past century, including the development of bilateral relations, the defense of property rights, the renovation of a historic building, and the enlistment on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Twin Oaks not only serves to connect the past, present, and future of Taiwan-U.S. relations, but also bears political, diplomatic, historic and cultural significance. In order to manifest Twin Oaks’130 years of glamour, a series of festivities titled “A Tribute to the 130th anniversary of Twin Oaks, 1888-2018,” has been planned by TECRO to celebrate this auspicious moment throughout the year of 2018. The events will range from an art exhibition and fashion shows to concerts and a gourmet feast with Taiwan elements, so as to complement Twin Oaks’ abundance and splendor.
