On Thursday, June 9, the Delaware State Legislature moved to support Taiwan in several ways. Not only did Delaware become the first state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. to establish the Taiwan Friendship Caucus, but the state legislature also unanimously passed a resolution (HCR NO.92) supporting the partnership with Taiwan.
In addition to attending a celebration of the Delaware State Legislature’s new Taiwan Friendship Caucus, Ambassador Bi-khim Hsiao was invited to speak before the Delaware General Assembly after the resolution was passed. Ambassador Hsiao expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the General Assembly for its staunch support of the robust Taiwan-Delaware partnership.
The sisterhood partnership between Delaware and Taiwan formally began on September 12, 2000. Both sides signed a driver’s license reciprocal agreement in June 2014. In 2021, Taiwan was Delaware’s 4th largest export market and 6th largest source of imports in Asia. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office looks forward to strengthening an even closer partnership with Delaware in the years ahead.
