On July 22nd, the Taipei Representative Office in the UK hosted an event for alumni who have been awarded the Taiwan Scholarship, Huayu Enrichment Scholarship or Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship, as well as for students who will be studying in Taiwan this year, in order to advance students’ understanding about Taiwan and Taiwan-UK relations, as well as offering a forum for former and current students to share experience.
Representative Kelly Hsieh briefed alumni and students on the encouraging developments in Taiwan-UK relations, underlining Taiwan’s support for the values of freedom and democracy and the importance of a respect for freedom of speech. While encouraging former alumni to share their positive Taiwan experiences in the UK, Representative Hsieh wished the younger students a fruitful learning journey in Taiwan. To promote the bilingual policy, the Education Division introduced the Ministry of Education’s recruitment information for English teachers and teaching assistants.
Susie Woo, former recipient of the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship and now an English teaching YouTube influencer, shared her experience of learning Mandarin at National Cheng Kung University. She praised the lively teaching style in Taiwan, saying it inspired her to become an English teacher herself, before passionately recommending foreigners to study Mandarin in Taiwan.
