On 6 June, the TRO hosted a chamber music recital and reception at London’s National Liberal Club featuring internationally acclaimed Taiwanese musicians Hui-Ti Wang on violin, Shu-Wei Tseng on piano and cello and Lysianne Chen on piano. Over 150 people attended the performance, including members of the UK government and parliament such as the Co-Chairs of the British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group Lord Steel of Aikwood and Mr. Nigel Evans MP. The ambassadors of Honduras, Haiti, Nicaragua, Paraguay and other members of London’s diplomatic corps were also in attendence along with prominent figures from art and culture, the press, academia and the Taiwanese community.
In his opening remarks, Representative Lin stressed the importance of strengthening cultural ties between Taiwan and the UK and expressed gratitude to allies for their friendship and support. Following the speech, the musicians played a number of wonderful pieces, including two inspired by Taiwanese folk music: Ma Shui-Long’s Lion Dance from Taiwan Suite for Solo Piano and Lai Sheung-Ping’s Taiwanese Suite for Piano Trio. After the performance, Representative Lin met with prominent guests and exchanged views on building bilateral relations.
