GOLF – The Republic of China on Taiwan Ambassador Peter Tsai shone brightly for his team during the African Alliance (AA) golf tournament.
The invitational games were played at the Royal Swazi Sun golf course on Wednesday.
Tsai, who was captain for his team which included AA partner and Swazi Observer Board of Directors Chairman Sithofeni Ginindza, produced most of his team’s points, hitting great shots both on the holes and from the drive points.
Most of his drives, as the team rounded the 18-hole golf course, were excellent and landed in great positions at the greens such that his team-mates would elect to play his ball right into the hole as per the requirements of the format used. As captain, Tsai led by example, even hitting birdies and at times unbelievably putting shots that had his team celebrating.
The ambassador would occasionally be honoured with a removal of cap and handshakes by his team after he had produced his magic at the greens.
As the team rounded the holes, Tsai only experienced problems with the 10th hole, where his drive went into the trees. His supportive team-mates would encourage each other when one would hit a bad shot. All his team-mates were filled with admiration for the ambassador, especially his unique flat shots and were thoroughly impressed.
“He is indeed playing very well and is putting us at a great advantage to play good balls. The ambassador is truly our main man,” commented Ginindza. He was echoed by Ministry of Public Service PS Evart Madlopha: “Mr Ambassador, you (are) the man. Great shots there ambassador, some of which I have not seen in local golf.”
For his wonderful contribution and great display of special golfing skills, the ambassador was given the name “Superman” as he would occasionally hit wonder shots that landed right into the hole despite being a distance from the flag.
He would sometimes be forced to dug it out from the bunker. However, his team did not make it to the top ten winners list but enjoyed their day out at the greens nonetheless.
