Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang graced the opening night of the 7th edition of the Singapore Chinese Film Festival to show his support for the event as well as for Taiwan’s film industry. At the opening ceremony, Festival Co-director, Associate Professor Foo Tee Tuan, thanked Representative Liang and the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore for the continued support of the annual film festival.
The film festival featured three films by well-known Taiwanese Director Chang Yi, namely, “This Love of Mine”, “Kuei-Mei, A Woman”, and “A Dog’s Life”. As special guests at the screening, Chang and the leading ladies of the first two films won much applause and attracted a snaking queue of fans at the event.
In its 10 years of history, the distinguished Taiwan Golden Horse Academy has provided valuable mentoring experiences and learning opportunities for young, aspiring Singaporean and Malaysian filmmakers. It is, therefore, most fitting that highly acclaimed Taiwanese film editor and Chief Administrator of the Academy, Mr Liao Ching-Song, was invited to lead the panel talk entitled “10 Years of Golden Horse Film Academy”.
The 7th edition of the Singapore Chinese Film Festival opened from 18 April and will run till 28 April 2019. The film festival featured 60 films celebrating Chinese cinema, of which 27 were from Taiwan. Jointly organised by the Singapore Film Society and Centre for Chinese Studies, Singapore University of Social Sciences, the film festival allows the audience and friends in Singapore to better appreciate the richness of Taiwanese culture and its people.
