On 10 October 2018, the Organizing Committee for the Republic of China (ROC) 107th Double Tenth National Day celebrated the ROC 107th Double Tenth National Day by hosting a dinner reception at the Mandarin Orchard Singapore. Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang graced the event which was attended by over 700 friends and well-wishers. Present at the event were commissioners, senior advisors and coordinators of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, office bearers of the Taipei Business Association in Singapore, and friends from the political, business, academic and diplomatic community in Singapore.
In his address, Representative Francis Liang commended the Organizing Committee for its devotion and dedication to the country, as demonstrated by its tireless efforts in organizing a line-up of woodball, tennis and golf tournaments as well as the dinner reception to commemorate the nation’s 107th birthday. These social and networking events were warmly received by both the Taiwanese compatriots and friends in Singapore. He also referred to President Tsai Ing-wen’s national day speech, entitled "Democratic Taiwan Lights up the World", and reiterated that in the face of dramatic changes in international politics and economics, Taiwan will pursue a strategy of stability, adaptability and progress rooted in national strength.
Representative Francis Liang also expressed his hope that Taiwan and Singapore will enjoy even closer bilateral relations. He shared an anecdote of his Singaporean friends traveling to Taiwan to scale Jade Mountain (Yushan) and encouraged more friends in Singapore to travel to Taiwan to savor its many delights and experience Taiwanese hospitality.
As the evening progressed, Representative Francis Liang and Deputy Representative Steven Tai were invited to join the members of the Organizing Committee for the cake-cutting onstage. Adopting the Singapore-style of shouting “Yam Seng” three times, everyone raised their glasses to the prosperity and happiness of Taiwan. The evening continued amidst much laughter and pomp with a special appearance by “The Lighters” a brother/sister singing duo whose father Dr. Hu Wei-zhen happens to be a former Taiwanese Representative in Singapore. There were other performances by Singaporean, Malaysian and Taiwanese artistes and a rousing sing-along led by Representative Francis Liang and the VIP guests capped the evening’s celebrations.
