On 11 March 2018, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang led a memorial service to commemorate the 93rd death anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the Republic of China, at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Wan Qing Yuan). Those in attendance include advisers and coordinators of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Office bearers of the United Chinese Library, and the Alumni of Taiwan Universities and Colleges; and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore. In a solemn ceremony, Representative Liang led the group of about 30 persons in offering flower wreaths and paying their respects before the statue of Dr. Sun.
In his address, Representative Liang stated that Wan Qing Yuan serves as a reminder of the contributions of the overseas Chinese pioneers and their historic connection to the 1911 Chinese Revolution. The support of Singapore’s early Chinese pioneers like Mr. Teo Eng Hock, Mr. Tan Chor Lam and Mr. Lim Nee Soon, played a significant part in the success of Dr. Sun’s revolution. Following the overthrow of the Qing dynsaty, Dr. Sun’s doctrine on “Sanmin Zhuyi” (“The Three Principles of the People”), which advocates the principles of nationalism, democracy, and welfare, found its full implementation in Taiwan, where complete freedom, democracy and the rule of law prevail.
