The Taiwanese Hakka Association for Asia invited Hakka groups from 10 Asian countries and regions to participate in the 2013 Hakka Reunion Assembly in Singapore on 10 April 2013. More than 150 Hakka representatives from the various Hakka organizations in Asia were in attendance. Minister Huang Yu-cheng of the Hakka Affairs Council, Executive Yuan, had also flown in specifically from Taiwan to grace the occasion.
Minister Huang pointed out in his remarks at the meeting that the Hakka Affairs Council would set up an on-line certification site named as “Hundred words of Hakka Language and Certification” this year as part of an initiative to digitize the language learning and proficiency certification. He encouraged fellow Hakkas to access the website at their own convenience to learn the Hakka language of daily life, take the on-line examination and get a qualifying certificate for passing it.
In an address delivered at the evening dinner, Representative Hsieh of the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore emphasized that the gathering of the Hakkaness representatives at the Reunion Assembly not only served to enhance the bonding and cohesiveness of the various Hakka groups but was also promoting the Hakka spirit of mutual care and support for one another as well as enabling the different Hakka groups to broaden their scope of contributions to their respective countries of residence. He congratulated the successful conclusion of the Assembly.
