Taiwan Donates 40 Tons of Rice to the Marshall Islands to Support Food Security
Taiwan Ambassador Steve Hsia donated 40 tons of rice worth US$42,500 to the Marshall Islands government on March 10. Taiwan also covered the international shipping costs amounting to US$11,670, demonstrating Taiwan's concrete action to help improve food security in the Marshall Islands.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that Taiwan has provided rice aid to the Marshall Islands, highlighting the long-standing and solid diplomatic relationship between the two countries. The donation ceremony was held in Taiwan Embassy, and Minister Kalani Kaneko of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) and Acting Minister Bremity Lakjohn of the Ministry of Culture and Internal Affairs (MOCIA) represented the Marshall Islands government at the ceremony and expressed their sincere gratitude.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Hsia stated, "In the face of global climate change and food price fluctuations, food security has become a critical issue for Pacific Island nations. As a sincere partner of the Marshall Islands, Taiwan hopes to help strengthen the country's food security network through practical actions and deepen bilateral cooperation."
Minister Kaneko and Minister Lakjohn thanked the Taiwan government for its generous assistance, emphasizing that this donation will help improve the food supply for local residents, especially those living in remote atoll areas.
Taiwan and the Marshall Islands established diplomatic relations in 1998 and have maintained close cooperation in agriculture technology, healthcare, education, and culture. This rice donation once again demonstrates Food Security Partnership between Taiwan and the Marshall Islands.
