The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) hosted the RMI Taiwan Alumni Luncheon and 2024 MOFA Taiwan Scholarship Orientation at the Marshall Islands Resort (MIR) on July 11, 2024. This year, a total of 17 scholarship recipients were honored, with most planning to study at the Mandarin Training Center of National Taiwan Normal University in their first year, before pursuing their degree programs. Notably, two recipients will begin their studies in Public Health, pursuing Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the outset.
During the orientation, Ambassador Steve C.C. Hsia congratulated the recipients on their commendable achievements and wished them success on their academic journeys. Ambassador Hsia highlighted Taiwan’s commitment to fostering RMI's development and deepening bilateral relations, announcing that Taiwan and RMI had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Education Cooperation on July 3, 2024. This agreement aims to enhance exchanges in capacity building, volunteer services, language teacher training, and the promotion of scholarship programs.
RMI Ambassador to the ROC (Taiwan), Anjanette Kattil, delivered virtual remarks, congratulating the scholarship recipients and assuring Marshallese students in Taiwan of the RMI Embassy's support to help them adapt to life in Taiwan.
Dr. Yukiko Muller and Chloe Abraham, representing the RMI Taiwan Alumni, shared their educational experiences and engaging stories with the new scholarship recipients. They praised the quality of education in Taiwan and encouraged the students to study diligently while enjoying their time in Taiwan.
Additionally, the Embassy of the ROC (Taiwan) and the Marshallese Students Association in Taiwan provided the scholarship recipients with guidelines and essential tips for living and studying in Taiwan, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future academic endeavors. (E)
