President Tsai Ing-wen said March 14 that the contributions of outgoing Ambassador Hubert Emmanuel of St. Lucia, a Republic of China (Taiwan) Caribbean diplomatic ally, to advancing bilateral ties are deeply appreciated by the government and people.
Emmanuel’s efforts since assuming office in November 2015 have helped take relations to new heights and further cemented the firm friendship between the two nations, Tsai said. It is expected this healthy state of affairs will continue going forward, she added.
Tsai made the remarks while receiving Emmanuel and presenting him with a farewell gift at the Office of the President in Taipei City.
According to the president, Emmanuel astutely employed his extensive public and private sector experience in promoting cooperative initiatives spanning such areas as agriculture, education, fisheries, information and communication technology, and public health.
Some of Emmanuel’s high-profile achievements include arranging the visits of St. Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet in November last year, as well as Senate President Andy Daniel and former House Speaker Leonne Theodore-John the month before, Tsai said.
The president also reaffirmed the importance of official ties, pledging to leave no stone unturned in promoting collaborative projects in accordance with the principle of mutual assistance for mutual benefits. (SFC-E)
