Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung hosted a banquet on March 18, 2025, to welcome Saint Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs Denzil Douglas and his delegation. On behalf of the government of Taiwan, Minister Lin extended a warm reception and expressed gratitude for Saint Kitts and Nevis' longstanding support for Taiwan's international participation.
Minister Lin previously visited Saint Kitts and Nevis in October last year, where he met with Minister Douglas. Their reunion in Taiwan was especially delightful. Minister Lin highlighted that this marks Minister Douglas' 12th visit to Taiwan. During his meeting with President Lai Ching-te, both sides engaged in cordial discussions and reflected on the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. Minister Lin also noted that this year marks the 42nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Over the years, the two countries have fostered substantial cooperation in agriculture, education, healthcare, technology, and women's empowerment. Minister Douglas’ visit includes hosting an investment forum to further enhance bilateral economic and trade exchanges. Taiwan, through the "Co-Prosperity" project, will collaborate with Saint Kitts and Nevis on renewable energy, smart healthcare, and sustainable tourism, bringing greater benefits to the peoples of both nations.
Minister Douglas expressed his appreciation to the government of Taiwan for its invitation and well-organized itinerary. He emphasized that the strong bilateral ties between the two nations are built upon shared values of democracy, the rule of law, and mutual respect. Their enduring partnership has significantly contributed to advancements in education, agriculture, technology, culture, environmental protection, and healthcare in Saint Kitts and Nevis, benefiting both the government and its people. Minister Douglas also stressed the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges. Recognizing Taiwan's strengths in innovation, advanced technology, and extensive expertise, Minister Douglas expressed his hope that Taiwan would continue to exert a strong and positive influence on the world. Minister Douglas reaffirmed Saint Kitts and Nevis’ unwavering support for Taiwan’s participation in the international community.
Minister Douglas and his delegation arrived in Taiwan on March 17 and will conclude their visit on March 21. (E)
