Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Saint Christopher and Nevis. The Federation of Saint Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis comprises two islands, St. Kitts and Nevis, which lie near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, with a population of about 50,000 and a land area of 269 square kilometres.
Saint Christopher and Nevis gained its independence from the UK on September 19th, 1983. The Republic of China (Taiwan) established diplomatic relations with the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis in October of that year, and set up its Embassy in Basseterre, the capital of the Federation, in August 1984.
With the signing of the Agreement on Technical Cooperation between Taiwan and Saint Christopher and Nevis in 1984, the Taiwan Technical Mission was established to undertake various development projects in the field of agriculture, horticulture, and technology to assist the Federation in the transformation of its sugarcane-based economy into a tourism-based economy. In recent years, new cooperation projects between the two countries include Capacity Building Project for the Prevention and Control of Chronic Metabolic Diseases, Enhancing Agricultural Adaptive to Climate Variability Project, Land Administration Information System Project, Pinney’s Beach Park Project. These mutually-beneficial cooperation projects have contributed tremendously to the development of the Federation.
Saint Christopher and Nevis established its Embassy in Taipei in January 2008, further demonstrating the cordial relationship enjoyed by both the governments and peoples of the two countries.
Exchange visits between Taiwan and Saint Christopher and Nevis by high-ranking officials and members of the general public have been frequent and ever increasing over the past 38 years.
Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris and many members of cabinet of the Federation have visited Taiwan to explore potential cooperation projects, especially in the field of High Technology and Management.
To date, 119 Kittitian and Nevisian students have studied or are currently studying in Taiwan, and 320 Kittitian and Nevisian citizens have attended various training programmes in Taiwan. The governments and peoples of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis enjoy mutually beneficial relations.
