News spread quickly among both new and old friends who gathered enthusiastically to witness and explore the event .
Following a solemn traditional welcome ceremony, Representative Chen emphasized in his speech that CATT is not merely a place for agricultural production but a smart farm integrating technology, environmental protection, and community sharing, such as solar panels combined with smart greenhouses. He expressed hope that CATT would maximize resource utilization for sustainable agricultural development. Secretary-General Dr. LI followed, expressing his expectation that CATT would bring more modern agricultural technologies to Fiji, further advancing the country's 2025 agricultural plans. Permanent Secretary Dr. Tukana recalled the Taiwan Technical Mission's contributions since its establishment in 1978, from early sugarcane cultivation techniques to recent introductions and improvements in tropical fruit trees, culminating in the establishment of CATT today, a testament to the long-term collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the technical mission.
Despite the hot weather, the participants listened attentively as the four experts and technicians in charge of the farm explained the functions of CATT and TTM's long-term efforts, covering the tissue culture laboratory, smart greenhouse, guava demonstration area, and dragon fruit demonstration area, and showcased the innovations brought by this new smart farm.
Under the guidance of the Taiwan Technical Mission in Fiji, guava and dragon fruit have gained a good reputation in Fiji. Many farmers are now making stable profits thanks to high-quality guava seedlings and the guidance provided by TTM.
