On behalf of the Cathay General Hospital, Taiwan Representative Joseph Chow handed over medical supplies worth of FJ$318,000 (approximately US$195,000) to Fiji’s Labasa Regional Hospital in support of its medical services in Vanua Levu on 22 December 2021.
In his remarks at the hand-over ceremony, Representative Chow said that Taiwan has been providing medical assistance to Fiji since 2006 and the Medical teams from Cathay General Hospital have visited Fiji for multiple times conducting more than 8,000 outpatient services and numerous surgeries since 2014. Moreover, Taiwan has provided Fiji with two infrared thermal imaging cameras, 42,000 surgical masks, 3,000 N95 masks, 3,050 gowns and 500 personal protective clothes since the outbreak of COVID-19, he added. Mr. Chow stressed that no one should be left behind when it comes to medical care and Taiwan is planning to donate 60 oxygen generators, some wheelchairs and other assistive devices in the near future.
On behalf of Labasa Regional Hospital, Acting Medical Superintendent Dr. Mua and Consultant Surgeon Dr. Maloni said that the Hospital is grateful for the donation of the medical supplies and the assistance of the medical teams from Cathay General Hospital over the years in terms of ENT, radiology, internal medicine and among others. They believe that the medical cooperation between the two hospitals will continue to be strengthened in spite of the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
