2019 LunarFest took place at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza on February 9 and 10. TECO Director General Andy Chen was invited as s special guest to this annual celebration. In his remarks, Mr. Chen thanked the Asian-Canadian Special Events Association and Metro Vancouver Overseas Taiwanese Society for organizing this event, which provided an opportunity for Vancouverites to get a taste of festive mood of Lunar New Year.
LunarFest showcased various Lunar New Year celebrations from Taiwan and other ethnic communities through vivid displays and interactive, dynamic programs. “Pig Hero Lanterns” by Taiwanese artist Yen-Chun Lu showed twelve different designs of pig hero lanterns representing twelve different cultures. A variety of activities attracted many families to come out and celebrate the Year of the Pig.
A special exhibition “The Galleria of Imperial Inspirations” was on display from January 29 to February 19 at Oakridge Centre. The exhibition featured Taiwan National Palace Museum’s replicas of the famous Italian painter Giuseppe Castiglione’s masterpieces, as well as the couture works created by Canadian and Taiwanese designers inspired by his paintings.
