The Youth Mobility Program between Canada and Taiwan (ROC) came into effect in July 2010. The goal of this program is to give Canadian and Taiwanese youth the opportunity to learn different cultures. Each year, 1,000 places are available under this program for the young citizens of either country to travel and work in the other’s for up to 12 months.
- Qualification requirements:
Applicants are qualified if they meet the following requirements:
(1) Hold Canadian citizenship and reside in Canada;
(2) Have not previously obtained an ROC (Taiwan) visa for the Youth Mobility Program;
(3) Be between the ages of 18 and 35 inclusive on the date the application is received;
(4) Have pre-arranged an internship, workplace experience or work placement in Taiwan; have registered at a post-secondary institution and pre-arranged either an internship or work placement in Taiwan; intend to travel in Taiwan and will join the Youth Mobility Program, such as by working in Taiwan. Work should be the secondary, rather than the primary, reason for coming to Taiwan. The total duration of stay will be no more than one year from the date of entry into Taiwan;
(5) Have not listed dependants on their application.
- Required documentation:
Applicants who meet the above requirements should submit the following documentation:
(1) ROC (Taiwan) Visa Application Form for the Youth Mobility Program completed and signed by the applicant (Link: https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw/ > General Visa Applications);
(2) Curriculum vitae and outline of the mobility program in Taiwan;
(3) Passport valid for at least one year from the date of application;
(4) Two passport-size photos in color with white background taken within the last six months. There must be no hair across the eyes. Ears, eyebrows, moles, birthmarks or scars must not be covered. (Guidelines for ePassport Photographs);
(5) Proof of travel health insurance for the duration of the permitted stay in the Republic of China (Taiwan);
(6) Health check certificate (Link: Taiwan Centers for Disease Control);
(7) Proof of possession of a return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase a plane ticket to leave Taiwan;
(8) Proof of possession of the equivalent of C$2,500 in funds (e.g. traveler’s checks or bank deposits);
(9) Visa fee of CDN$133 (Note: this amount is the equivalent to the cost of a multiple entry ROC (Taiwan) Visitor Visa for Canadian citizens).
- Application procedures:
(1) Applications are not necessary to be made in person;
(2) Applications must be submitted to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Vancouver if you are currently residing in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Northwest Territories;

(3) Applicants should submit other documentation and undergo an interview if required.
- Type of visa issued:
(1) Type: Visitor Visa (marked ‘WH’ for Youth Mobility Program purposes).
(2) Validity: One year from the date of issue, good for multiple entries.
(3) Duration of stay: 180 days. However, no later than 15 days before expiry, an extension can be applied for at the National Immigration Agency service center in the city or county of residence in Taiwan. No further extensions or changes to visa type will be permitted thereafter.
