The Embassy and Belize Taiwan Alumni Society co-hosted the Orientation for 2020 Taiwan MOFA & ICDF Scholarships on July 25, 2020 at the Belize Biltmore Plaza.
H.E. Ambassador Remus Li-Kuo Chen officially congratulated the 48 aspiring young Belizean awardees with best wishes as well as the courage and faith for life while facing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Invited VIP guest speakers included H.E. Sir Colville Young, Governor-General of Belize, Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education, and Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs, all thanked the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for providing even more scholarship opportunities to young Belizeans, as a testimony to the stronger-than-ever Taiwan-Belize friendship. They all also shared the view that the 48 scholarship recipients to be ambassadors of Belize while in Taiwan, and should return to Belize once completing their study to contribute to the national development of Belize with their specialized expertise.
Other programs included a video clip made by Belizean students currently in Taiwan, alumni Mrs. Ann-Cruz-Eck and Ms. Karina Garbutt sharing their Taiwan experience, and 2020 Scholarship recipients Mr. Christian Miranda and Ms. Joneli Pinelo sharing their aspirations for studying in Taiwan and returning as the positive driving force for Belize.
Congratulations to the 48 recipients of the 2020 Taiwan Scholarships, a record high number since the inception of Taiwan Scholarships being offered to Belizean students.
