On Thursday 10 December, the EIAS hosted the webinar: “Taiwan’s Role in the EU’s Strategic Autonomy and Diversification of its Supply Chains”. Ambassador Tsai delivered the opening remarks for the webinar and speakers included Chern-Chyi CHEN (Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs of Taiwan), Christophe HANSEN and Seán KELLY (MEPs), Giuseppe IZZO (Chairman of European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan) and Pascal KERNEIS (Managing Director, European Services Forum).
In his remarks, Amb. Tsai stated that it is the right time to engage in discussions regarding the EU’s strategic autonomy, supply chains and the potential for cooperation between the EU and Taiwan. Taiwan with its advanced ICT, AI, IOT, and other important strategic sectors, could be a reliable and important partner for the EU.
All the speakers emphasized the importance of starting negotiations on an EU-Taiwan BIA. A BIA between the EU and Taiwan could serve as a valuable instrument for the EU, assisting in diversifying its global supply chains and further developing its strategic autonomy.
