On behalf of the People and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen donated 2 fire trucks to the Republic of the Marshall Islands at the ICC on October 21, 2014. H.E. President Christopher Loeak, Minister of Internal Affairs David Kabua, Minister of Justice Rien Morris, Minister of Finance Jack Ading, Vice Speaker Caios Lucky, Senator Kenneth Kedi, Acting Police Commissioner Jim Phillipo, Deputy Police Commissioner Harris Kaiko, and Fire Captain Grenalee Mitzutani and the staff from the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy all witnessed the fire truck donation.
The 2 fire trucks, total values of USD$135,000, have 924.63 and 792.94 gallon water tank capacity respectively. One will be shipped to Ebeye, and the other will be used by the Fire Station in the village of Laura. These 2 fire trucks are generously donated by Taipei City Government, the sister city of Majuro Atoll Local Government, which enable RMI Fire Station to provide timely emergency response if any fire accident occurs.
During his remarks, Ambassador Chen expressed his hope that 2 fire trucks could be put to their best use so as to benefit the public safety in the Marshall Islands. Ambassador Chen also reiterated that both ROC (Taiwan) and the RMI shared the same goal and vision for the better livelihood of the people in this great country and should work more closely in areas such as public safety and capacity building to the grassroot level.
On behalf of the RMI government, H.E. President Christopher Loeak thanked Ambassador Chen and the people and the government of ROC (Taiwan) for this timely donation and expressed his commitment to a closer partnership with ROC (Taiwan) on many more projects in the years to come.
